American here, I don't dislike Raccoons, my uncle and aunt took care of a rescue pup for awhile named Roxy. Cute little thing. Veeeeery mischievous though. Having one as a pet reminds me of having parrots or a higher corvid as a pet in that you're not really taking an animal into your home. You're taking in a hyper active toddler level intelligence with, in the case of the raccoon, opposable thumbs and built in weapons. You may have childproofed your home, but I guarantee you it's not raccoon proof. They can make for very fun pets for the right person I'm sure, but you need to have the time to give them... and preferably work from home, or at least have an outdoor run/play pen for them or you're gonna get your house trashed. Kinda the same deal with having a fox. Love'em, but unless they're the domesticated Russian strain of silver fox they're not particularly great indoor pets.

Lost in the Pond: Unfortunately i am an American, but i love raccoons. I had one as a brother when is was growing up. We had so much fun together! It is not true that raccoons wash their food. What is going on when you see this behavior is they get their paws wet so their more sensitive to touch.

For most of my life I, and most of my family, referred to it as the "number" sign. It was used as a convenience for denoting sequence or selection. Instead of writing out "Number One, Number Two, etc." we would write #1, #2.

Lots of stories about racoons here and as an individual that has actually lived in multiple national parks (employed) none capture the full capacity of these creatures. They not only can work together to accomplish a task, but can teach each other how to open things, knock stuff over and climb some of the most surprising manmade surfaces of any non-insect I have encountered. If your latch or ketch does not require a key, they will get past it.

4:34 I'm not sure that "remain non-rhotic" is quite the right way to look at it. My understanding is that most American accents are rhotic because British English was rhotic in the 1600s and early 1700s when America was colonized. British English later shifted to non-rhotic, but many parts of America remained (and continue to remain) rhotic. I mean, there's a reason that those "R"s were put into those words in the first place. 🙂

As a New Yorker, tag questions have a tendency to feel patronizing. That form of speech is often used when talking to a child or pet, or when trying to teach a lesson. So to hear it from a fellow adult can seem like they're calling me an idiot.

I love the irony that the only people who can use Zoomer slang, are Zoomers and Gen X. I work with a lot of Zoomers at my office and when i say "Naw thats cap" they smile or chuckle a little, and then they start to test my Zoomerisms, often surprised i know more than they do...where as when some Millennial uses it, its always cringe...and everyone hates it when a Boomer tries too...but that prob due to everyone hating boomers, and rightly so. that being said, im not sure if its because, despite Gen X being the smallest generation, its the most liked, or if its like hearing my Grandfather say "Dude"...where it we would be endearing....oh God i hope its not that one, thats cringe. 8:36 HA! i knew you were gonna say that! Y'all is just too handy a word to not keep around, its a very woody word, its not tinny like Youse or Yin....Ya'llllllllllllll...yes nice and woody

But get this to sound like they are better than Americans they changed their pronunciation to sound better than the poorly Americans. Could be total crap not sure but there you have it lol. But the thought of a knight in old England sounding like a red neck could be quite funny lol

Were these people from the states or brits who surmised the US was like they thought and you bought it hook line and sinker? Even though they've never been here. Wow! With so much intelligence over there you would think they made the first computer, created special effects, they probably think they were on the Moon too.

So when i was a young man still living at home in Rural Georgia, we had an indoor/outdoor cat, a Persian. We had 4 acres of land, mostly woods. Well one night a Coyote figures that cat is next meal...what it didnt count on was our large German Shepard who loved that cat..and wasnt too fond of a predator in HIS yard. We could hear the barking, snarling and the fighting from the house, my father quickly ran out with the shotgun...but he didnt need it. Old Max took that Coyote apart in less than a min. Max was covered in blood, none of it his. We had the vet check him and give him a rabies booster the next AM just in case. The entire time of the fight, the cat was watching from the porch...i dunno what black magic that cat had to tell Max what was going on, but he knew.. Max got a big steak for dinner the next day, and the Persian was now an inside only cat after that. That cat was my moms pet, a little too snooty for us, but she loved that cat. Max, on the other hand, was my best boi. I miss him to this day. His big ears and big old snoot. Id give anything to give him and his grey mustache a hug again.

Ah the Trash Panda. The American trickster. Yes they can be pests, and they can carry rabies, on the other hand they can be incredibly charming very intelligent and lets face it, they are cute. Opinions on them can be based on regions, in the south they are hunted but also kept as pets. This is also common in the Midwest, as my father had a pet one as a child which he adored and has wanted another one for decades.
